Accreditation

Grandfather Home for Children takes pride in its outstanding achievements in improving the safety and quality of care for children. We are licensed by the State of North Carolina through the Department of Health and Human Resources and the Division of Facility Services as a residential treatment center.

On January 10th, Grandfather Home for Children achieved certification from the state of North Carolina as a Critical Access Behavioral Health Agency (CABHA).  Obtaining this certification reinforces the agency’s commitment to provide the best and most clinically sound services to traumatized children.

Grandfather Home for Children is also accredited nationally by the Joint Commission as a provider for child and adolescent mental health services and by the Council on Accreditation (COA) as a residential treatment center and foster care provider. We are the only child care agency in North Carolina that is accredited by both organizations. This dual accreditation exemplifies our commitment to excellence.

Grandfather Academy, an education program on the Banner Elk campus, is a North Carolina Public Charter School by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. It is accredited by the National Commission for the Accreditation of Special Education Services.

In 2006, Grandfather Home was a recipient of the Ernest Amory Codman Award. This award recognized Grandfather Home as one of the best behavioral health care centers in the United States.
